Artist Statement Ditch today – gather gear, and create myth based on benched rituals. I’m committed now; the line between myth and reality is thinned – penetrable. I enter the labyrinth – the ritual begins. The smell is next, always damp, and always cold. One path, no dead-ends, no choices to make as I meander towards the center. The commitment to explore is purifying – isolated. Each step inward builds assurances as I trespass into the internal. Surveying helps, I’m more confident with my surroundings now. A benchmark is placed. I shoot grades, break tape, and stake my claim – the center must be found. The thread runs out, I am here. In the center of the labyrinth, one encounters oneself. In the center of the labyrinth, one is never lost. I record my progress. A threshold presents itself. The center is beautiful – sacred, but still not deep enough. I tunnel through, tearing deeper into the labyrinth. Not accepting an end – I push forward, shake hands with infinity, and continue to dig forever.
